Sir, - As Dermot Feenan correctly points out in his letter (March 28th) vasectomy is a lawful operation and the Medical Council has no objection to medical practitioners performing it. However, it is less obvious that it is lawful for a health board to offer such a service at the taxpayers expense.
The operation is performed on the healthy, it does not treat or prevent any disease or suffering. Could the taxpayer be required to fund clinics for all lawful cosmetic operations? - Yours, etc.,
