Sir, - I read with interest about the closure of the vasectomy clinic in Donegal. I have been a GP for 17 years and I have observed some of the long term effects after vasectomy. These men seem to age more quickly. Some of our patients suffer from depression, lethargy and increased risk of divorce. Some suffer from impotence.
It is difficult to do research in this field as these patients are mostly under 60 years. At present, I advise against vasectomy as I feel our knowledge is incomplete.
