Madam, - As the proposed changes for Cobh Cathedral are not required by the document Sacrosanctum Concilium of Vatican II (or any other document I know of) the bishops should not be unduly upset by An Bord Pleanála's refusal to grant planning permission.
The fact that so many Catholics in the diocese of Cloyne are opposed to those changes should give the cathedral authorities pause for thought. Adrian O'Donovan (of the group Friends of St Colman's Cathedral) thinks it is a "sad day for the Church when people must appeal to the civil authorities to save their cathedral". With the utmost respect for the Cobh Cathedral authorities, I think it a scandal. - Yours, etc,
CT GREENAN OP, St Saviour's Priory, Dublin 1.
