Madam, - Vincent Brown's assertion (Opinion March 10th) that "all-out fist fights and stamping on prostrate defenceless opponents are not unusual in rugby and rarely occasion disciplinary action" is incorrect.
Violence in rugby is not tolerated. Disciplinary sanction (sin bin and suspension) is rigorously employed and has been so successful that a punch "thrown in anger" is now a rarity in rugby. - Yours, etc.,
