Madam, - I refer to Lara Marlowe's report from Baghdad (April 1st) and recent letters condemning Mel Gibson's movie, The Passion Of The Christ.

There has been much controversy regarding the violence in Mel Gibson's movie and in particular the Scourging at the Pillar.

This violence pales into insignificance when compared with the atrocities reported from Fallujah in Baghdad .

None of the soldiers threw a hand grenade at Jesus, poured petrol over him and set him alight, then beat him with pipes, kicked his head until it was detached from the corpse and then hacked the body with shovels.

Neither did they truss up the charred corpse, and drag it through the streets and attach it to the criss-crossed girders of a bridge upside down with neither hands nor feet while locals threw stones at it and children stabbed the corpse with knives.

This is violence 21st century style and where is the public outcry? - Yours, etc.,
