Voting in the North for Irish president

Sir, – I refer to Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin's passionate defence of the people of the North who voted to remain in the UK referendum on EU membership, and in particular his vow to defend the rights of those who hold Irish passports ("Micheál Martin vows to defend post-Brexit rights of NI people", December8th).

It’s an interesting take from the leader of a party that only last week blocked discussion in the Seanad on the rights of Irish passport holders in the North to vote in Irish presidential elections. – Yours, etc,

MARTIN KEENAN
