Sir, - Further to your `Walk of the Week' on Blackrock to Irishtown (July 25th), you rightly pointed out that at high tide it is necessary to quit the beach section between Blackrock Park and Merrion Gates, and to go inland on to the busy Rock Road. Easy walking along the beach is also impeded by several streams which enter the sea along that stretch.

Perhaps it is time that consideration be given to creating a raised walkway/cycleway from, say, Blackrock Dart station to Merrion Gates, along the seaward line of the existing seawall. Such a walkway/cycleway could hardly be prohibitively expensive, given that there is a solid sea wall already along the beach at that stretch. It would he a significant addition to the recreational attractions of the region and give easy access for all to a large section of the bay close to the city.

Yours, etc.,

Ranelagh,
