Sir, – Whilst our Government reflects on our neutrality, and maybe puts the issue before a citizen’s assembly, it’s too little, too late. The war is now.
Ireland should supply weapons to Ukraine to bolster their war effort against a vastly more resourced Russian army.
Kicking the can down the road on neutrality is as cynical as waiving visa requirements for Ukrainians when airspace is closed. It’s equally cynical to claim to be actively assisting refugees when the vast majority of them are still in Poland and don’t have the means to get to Ireland.
So far, a few thousand have made it to Ireland. There are millions in Poland. It’s time already to lay on planes to get refugees to Ireland.
