Sir, – I see that a new sign has been added to the roster of the usual point and distance indicators erected along the roads of Ireland. This one is situated on the side of the road at shin level and bears a picture of a plant with the legend: “Japanese knotweed – do not cut”. No doubt tourists will be queuing up to photograph them. I can hardly wait for other species, such as ragwort and foxglove, to be similarly signposted. – Yours, etc,
LIAM POWER,
Ballina,
Co Mayo.
