Sir, - While it is laudable that Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is slowly putting together a strategy to deal with waste management, it is ridiculous to ask single householders to pay the same charge for waste disposal as large families. I have no problem paying a charge for my rubbish to be collected, but why should I have to pay the same £150 a year when I produce a fraction of what large families do? This is an illogical implementation of the "polluter pays" principle.
Isn't it also a twisted irony that the prize for some lucky early settler of accounts is a car, one of the worst polluters imaginable? Pay up early and pollute some more! - Yours, etc., Nicholas Harvey,
