Sir, – So the Christmas lights are on. It is good to be joyful and festive but we are causing excessive damage to the planet through wasting energy and over-indulging in consumerism. Comfortably we can cut down sensibly on our lifestyle.
Excess is ruining the world.

Sir, – As the autumn leaves fall to the ground, so do brochures advertising Christmas food and goods from retailers fall from every newspaper and magazine we pick up. Multiple reports, however, have told us there will be supply-chain problems in the lead-up to Christmas. So, why on earth are retailers promising what they will almost certainly be unable to deliver?
Meanwhile my green recycle bin is filling up with these false-promising brochures.
