Water charges and conservation

Sir, – The news that during September and October 2014 average water usage dropped by almost 20 million litres a day shows that people, at least in Dublin, were prepared to conserve water and pay for the water they used ("Dubliners take conservative approach to water", Front Page, February 26th). It has always been my belief that the anti-water charges group bullied the Government and we all suffered. A fixed charge was a quick response to the pandemonium.

I, for one, would have preferred meters. Irish people need to grow up and begin to take responsibility for minding our precious resources. – Yours, etc,

ANNE MARIE MORAN,

Raheny, Dublin 5.
