Madam, – I agree with Orna Mulcahy (Opinion, June 5th) about the proliferation of discarded plastic water bottles in public places. As she says, “we’re seemingly afraid to stray too far from a water source in case we keel over and turn to dust”. The bottled water drinkers are everywhere – in cinemas and theatres (irritating and anti-social), driving (probably as dangerous, if not more so, than using hand-held mobile phones) and conducting everyday activities such as walking or shopping. Why?
Not so long ago we used to manage perfectly well without slugging water out of environmentally unfriendly receptacles every few minutes.
It’s enough to drive anyone to drink. – Yours, etc,
