Sir, - While out walking on February 24th near my home in Rathfarnham, I observed a flock of about 50 waxwings which were feeding on red berries within a few feet of where I was standing. I presume that the Arctic winter in Europe is driving these birds south.
The last time I saw waxwings in Rathfarnham was five years ago. They are beautifully marked birds, with their distinctive crests, and it was a real joy to see them again. Have any of your readers had any recent sightings? - Yours, etc., Brian Cullen, Anne Devlin Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
Splitting The DifferenceSir, - I see from your front page of February 27th that the Government is to put "between three and four" constitutional amendments to the people. So, we are to have three-and-a-half amendments. Interesting! - Yours, etc.,John F. Doyle, Mill Road, Midleton, Co Cork.
