Sir, – Every morning and evening in every town and village schoolchildren can be seen bent under the weight of school bags full of books. Surely the effects of such weight upon their growing backs must be troubling.
I couldn’t stop thinking of watching my 13-year-old daughter as she walked off to catch the school bus one morning, bent double by the weight of the books in her bag.
The solution in this day and age is simple. Either the heavy books should be kept in school lockers and homework given with this in mind or, even better, Kindles and e-books should be used instead. – Yours, etc,
