Sir, – This week’s TV schedules reveal once more how the “new” UTV Ireland continues to short-change viewers in the Republic of Ireland. On previous UK general election nights, UTV would run ITN’s coverage of the results, enabling politics junkies to channel-hop between it, the BBC and Sky to keep up with the latest declarations and news. Indeed it could be argued that ITN did a much better job by not using the ridiculous, overwrought style of graphics so loved by the BBC’s Jeremy Vine.
On Thursday night, we are going to be denied the pleasure of watching ITN's analysis, ably presented from London by Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham. While they are broadcasting on all ITV's UK channels, we will be subjected to a repeat of the Jeremy Kyle show and then 2½ hours of "teleshopping". – Yours, etc,
