Madam, - Two reports in last Friday's Business section catch the eye. In one, the Irish Association of Investment Managers is calling for the chairman of DCC to leave his post because of dealings in shares which took place in the year 2000 - eight years ago - an event which has resulted in no action by the State itself under any law.
In the other, the director of corporate enforcement succeeded in having a retired NIB executive director disqualified for nine years from involvement in the management of any company for matters which took place at NIB between April 1994 and July 1996 (12 to 14 years ago).
It is a good job the persons involved in the above matters did not steal a kilo of sugar from their local supermarket, or they might have ended up in jail within months of the event.
It is reassuring to see that we deal with white-collar matters
with the dignity they deserve, as is also borne out by the
restrained language used about the solicitors being struck off in
other reports in the same edition. - Yours, etc,
