Who is buried in Yeats’s grave?

Sir, – I want to clarify the position of my family regarding the alleged “bitter exchanges” over the grave at Sligo.

After the dislocation of the war my grandmother returned to Roquebrune as eager to find the remains of her brother, Alfred Hollis, as George Yeats was to find those of her husband.

As Michael Yeats wrote to my grandfather, “the position with regard to the cemetery at Roquebrune would appear to be more than a little confused”.

There was no bitterness, no argument, no need for a “truce” between the two families. There was a great sense of loss and a great deal of effort to uncover the elusive truth.
