Who thinks of victims of bankruptcy?

Sir, – With all this backslapping about coming out of bankruptcy after one year, is no journalist interested in the Irish companies whose debts weren’t paid or only a minor percentage paid?

How many of those companies went bust because of unpaid debts? Will they ever get their full debt paid to them? Will we be observing those who have come out of bankruptcy and see if their earnings from now on match their money held, just in case they lied about their assets during bankruptcy rulings? Will we be able to find out who has taken advantage of this system?

I’m sure a full list of those who have declared bankruptcy would be interesting reading. Should we really be encouraging people to throw away all their money (or hide it), declare bankruptcy, don’t do anything for a year and don’t pay any debts and then come back with a clean slate?

When did bankruptcy become okay?
