Sir, – I’m sure I won’t be the only letter writer seeking to correct Mr Martin Keenan’s misapprehension (Letters, March 26th) that the Border in Ireland is a “British” border.

The adjectival use of the word “British” is confined to matters that relate, for example, to the island, culture or people of Britain.

As the Border in question is most certainly within the curtilage of the island of Ireland it follows that it is Irish. I should be happy to concede that it might also be “United Kingdomish”, or in the near future, EU-ish – but still Irish. – Yours, etc,

RAY LEONARD,
