Madam, - I picked up a copy of Saturday's Irish Times and gazed sadly at the photograph of snow falling on Dublin's Ha'penny Bridge. The image depicted shoppers battling through the chilly weather on Friday afternoon as they crossed the Liffey.
However, I wonder if many readers noticed the figure on the left of the picture huddling on the ground. Most Dubliners will know that there is nearly always a homeless person sitting on that bridge, day and night.
I wonder how long they sit there, sometimes in sub-zero temperatures, before someone brings them indoors and gives them a warm meal.
I urge politicians to immediate action on the issue of the homeless in Dublin, particularly during this freezing weather.
We who are lucky enough to have homes find it cold enough walking from college or work to the bus stop - but imagine sleeping out every night in the snow, wind and rain.
Perhaps someone with the power to change this will have noticed the lonely figure in the picture and will make it their job to do something about it. - Yours, etc,
