Madam, - Paul Wolfowitz has no problem insisting that developing countries implement good governance and anti-corruption measures in order to receive World Bank support. In fact, he gave several speeches on this very subject.
However, he used his power and influence to secure a promotion and salary increase for someone he was close to - for personal, rather than professional reasons. It is deeply hypocritical of him to remain as chief of the World Bank. Why should he be exempt from upholding the same standards that he asks others to follow?
- Yours, etc,
MICHAEL BREEN, Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7.
