A chara, – I’m glad that women are protesting about discrimination in the arts. This is not a debate about quality; this is a debate about a right to earn a living. “Accidentally” excluding female voices not only perpetuates the marginalisation of women’s experience but also removes opportunities for women to put food on the table.
Many artists and musicians are required to redirect their talents in order to support their families. This is not a reflection of the standard of their art, but rather a pragmatic choice. We have worked to provide outlets for artists. Let’s give everyone a chance to give up the day job and add their light to the pantheon of stars.
I am not saying that quality is immaterial. On the contrary, I am presuming it is a given. – Yours, etc,
