Women and the priesthood

Sir, – I concur with the views expressed by Brendan Butler (August 29th).

Women were an integral part of the ministry of Jesus. They followed and supported him, attracted by a philosophy of compassion, justice and equality. We should not forget that all four Gospels cite the presence of several of these women at the death of Jesus, nor that his resurrection was first revealed to a woman on her way to prepare his body for burial.

And just who do we think prepared the Last Supper?

I have known many good nuns who have dedicated their lives not only to God but to the service of others, as carers, nurses and teachers.
