Sir, Mr Charlie McCreevy TD was kind enough to say on air last Sunday that those who had brought about our economic success should share in its fruits.

On this point, Dr Tony Fahey of the ESRI was quoted in your issue of April 30th as follows:

"The time given by mothers to their children in the 1970s and 1980s laid the ground for the `Celtic Tiger' nature of the Irish economy today. Women working in the home had invested in this economic success, and were therefore entitled to benefit from it in the form of pensions in their maturity."

As one who falls into this category I listened in vain for even one word on the subject during the recent election campaign. Dare one hope that Mr McCreevy's munificence will extend to these mothers? - Yours, etc.,
