Sir, - Once again senior gardaí have been shown to be out of touch with reality and the wishes of the people.
I hope everybody will boycott the antiseptic Phoenix Park, throng the streets of Dublin and demand to see the team. - Yours, etc.,
KEITH NOLAN, Bulloch Harbour, Dalkey, Co Dublin.

A chara, - I am bitterly disappointed that we were knocked out of the World Cup by Spain. We were robbed! Everyone agrees that the better team lost out on the day - even on the BBC where I was watching our match. It was great to see that the English were really rooting for us - the BBC were absolutely brilliant.
There's a new generation of exciting and talented young Irish players on the scene, such as Damien Duff and Robbie Keane, and I say forget the begrudgers and the naysayers. The homecoming should be something special. - Yours, etc.,
PAUL KINSELLA, Lorcan Grove, Santry, Dublin 9

Sir, - We may have lost on Sunday, but we won as well in terms of enormous dignity and friendship. My heartfelt thanks to Mick McCarthy and Shay Given, in particular, on behalf of all the punters in the Lord Clyde in Bradford, where the Tricolour took the place of the St George Cross without anyone objecting. - Yours, etc.
MICHAEL MULLAN, Bradford, Yorkshire, England.
