YOUNG SCIENTISTS

JAMES MALSEED,

JAMES MALSEED,

Madam, - Just a final word about the Young Scientists exhibition. I wonder if many people are aware of the involvement of primary level children. I am a National School teacher who has exhibited projects with fifth and sixth Classes for the past three years. I must express my disappointment and that of my colleagues at the lack of media coverage and interest in this sector.

Although we were relegated to the back of the hall, it was wonderful to watch the children interact with the public, both young and old. There were 13 Primary Schools involved and the enthusiasm and knowledge of these young people was commended by judges, teachers and even Government Ministers! It is during these formative years that children develop a lifelong interest in science. Surely they deserve some media space and encouragement alongside their secondary colleagues. - Yours, etc.,

JAMES MALSEED,
