Sir, - Padraig O Cuanachains' invective against the Irish Parliamentary Party's John Redmond (An Irishman's Diary, June 22nd) demands a forceful and unequivocal rebuke.
Comparing the noble actions of Mr Redmond and the Home Rule Movement, and by extension the tens of thousands of our brave countrymen who heeded Redmond's call to fight in France with the Nazi recruitment machine in Eastern Europe is disingenuous and unworthy of The Irish Times.
Mr Redmond possessed leadership, vision and a commitment to social justice - qualities sorely lacking among today's political leaders. Above all, he was a democrat. His legacy deserves better. - Yours, etc.,
Laurence S. Dowling, Caherdavin Park, Limerick.
