Madam, – Recently, my son and I attended the Arsenal/Man City match at the Emirates Stadium in London. We do this once a year. I had saved for this weekend all year from my reduced public service pension (further reduced by the Government levy). Imagine my chagrin when, prior to the match, the names of all the companies with corporate boxes were displayed on the big screen behind me and AIB’s name was one of them.
Considering it costs £100,000 per year for one of these boxes and you have to pay for five years ahead (a total of half a million pounds sterling), I felt very annoyed that I, among thousands of other Irish taxpayers, was being fleeced by our Government to bankroll this bank when it can still spend that amount of money on one corporate box. I have no doubt that it also has other boxes at other big-name soccer stadiums.
I will remember this the next time AIB send me a customer survey to fill out. – Yours, etc,
