Social Democrat Gary Gannon (37) has held onto his seat in Dublin Central.

Mr Gannon, who was first elected to the Dáil in 2020, narrowly missed out to Independent Maureen O’Sullivan in 2016.

Originally from Portland Place, he was the party’s spokesperson for education, arts, social protection, foreign affairs and defence in the last Dáil. He was also a member of the Oireachtas committees on Foreign Affairs and Defence and Disability Matters.

He served as a Dublin city councillor from 2014 to 2020, representing the north inner city. He also contested the European elections in 2019 but was unsuccessful. Prior to joining the Social Democrats in 2015, Mr Gannon was an Independent and had canvassed for Ms O’Sullivan in the 2011 general election.

He had originally trained as a plumber before going on to study history and politics at Trinity College Dublin.

He is married and lives in Glasnevin.
