Rob O’Donoghue has been elected for the Labour Party in the new three-seat constituency of Dublin Fingal West.

It was Mr O’Donoghue’s first attempt to secure a seat in the Dáil.

However, a very strong performance in the local elections in June when he topped the poll received 3,185 first preferences, marked him out as a very likely Dáil candidate for the Labour Party in north county Dublin where the party has a long history.

Mr O’Donoghue (43) has been involved in politics since 2018 when he was co-opted onto Fingal County Council.

He is originally from Coolock in Dublin but has lived in north county Dublin for many years. was elected to the local authority in 2019 and was mayor of Fingal in 2020/21.

He has BSc in psychology, MSc in political science and a HDip in data analytics.

He works as a a data analyst in the no- for-profit sector. He told The Irish Times he was: “married to the constituency”.
