The annual dinner hosted by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) is being held on the evening of Thursday, February 6th, in the Clayton Hotel on Burlington Road in Dublin 4.

“It’s all about talking and meeting up with people, finding out what’s going on, the deals and what companies are doing what,” says an SCSI spokesman of the networking event.

Topics of conversation on the night are likely to include the SCSI’s recently published residential property report, which found that estate agents expect property prices to increase by an average of 6 per cent this year. Although there will be no respite for prospective buyers in the short term, according to the report, more than 60 per cent of those surveyed believe prices will level off soon.

Also likely to be of interest is the SCSI’s half-yearly tender price index findings, which showed commercial construction inflation is also beginning to level off. In the last 18-month period, it has risen on each occasion by about 1.5 per cent, according to the index.

It is understood there will be a crowd of about 1,250 property industry professionals in attendance at the black-tie dinner. Comedian Jarlath Regan, creator of the An Irishman Abroad podcast, will be on hand to entertain, while newly elected president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Justin O’Sullivan, and his wife, Vanessa, will both host, alongside SCSI president Kevin Hollingsworth.

Hollingsworth is expected to reference the need to address the skills shortages across the property and construction sectors in his address.
