What business-person do you most admire?
Love them or hate them but I think Michael O’Leary and his team in Ryanair have done an incredible job in creating one of the world’s biggest airlines and it’s surprising that in this country they don’t often get the credit they deserve.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Listening to a Manchester United fan channel called The United Stand – the main presenter is hilarious and calls it as it is.
How do you unwind?
I have a wide variety of interests, but I am by nature very competitive, so I gravitate to sport. When I am not running, going to the gym, or playing golf I like watching GAA, soccer, rugby or any other sport on the TV or in person, with Croke Park in particular being a great family day out.
How much money is in your wallet?
None, even the wallet is no longer necessary now as I use my phone and have gone almost completely digital. Despite the recent publicity, I think the cashless snowball has left the top of the mountain and there is no way back.
Getting solid legal advice early in your company’s journey is invaluable
Water pollution has no one cause but many small steps and working together can bring great change
Empowering women in pharma: MSD Ireland’s commitment to supporting diverse leadership
Super nutritious, wildly versatile and oh, so tasty: Make potatoes your go-to food
The last book you read?
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I had been trying to finish it for some time as it was a heavy read but there is no doubt that if you can focus on what is in front of you, it can be incredibly powerful.
What is the best business advice you have ever been given?
I have worked with some brilliant people over the years and got more of my fair share of advice but one line that sticks in my head is that it’s amazing what you can achieve if no one cares who gets the credit.
Who is the most famous person in your contacts list?
I’d better not be telling you that for fear of embarrassing them.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
Not sure I would get universal agreement on this at home, but I think I am quite good at focusing on the immediate priorities and more importantly, as I have a great team around me, I am able to decide when work should not be the priority.
The last film you watched?
Elvis. A different take on an old story but it brings it back to you how good he was.
What is your favourite possession?
Don’t really go in for possessions but there are several people in my life who would fall into my favourites category.
What is your most memorable holiday?
We have had some great holidays over the years but a road trip with the family from San Francisco to Los Angeles via Yosemite National Park was one adventure that particularly stands out.
What social media do you use?
None really, I am probably missing out, but I never got sucked into the world of LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram.
If money were no object, what would your fantasy purchase be?
A cure for all cancers would be top of the list.
What is the first website you look at every morning?
The New York Times but not for the news, to play Wordle which is a great way to wake up the brain!
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Historically I would have been both but as I get a little older, I try not to outstay my welcome.
If you were taoiseach for a day what would you do?
Probably resign or wake up from a nightmare, I could think of nothing worse.
What person do you most admire?
Another long list so I won’t choose one, but they all share a similar characteristic of lighting up a room when they enter it and not when they leave it.
What’s your favourite place in Dublin and why?
Wow, that’s a tricky one as there so many great places. Hard to beat the life and rhythm of Grafton Street, especially when my better half is looking for coffee and cake.
