The pharmaceutical industry has been the most significant driver of the Irish economy for a number of years now, generating some 39 per cent of the industrial NSV (Net Sales Value) in 2018, according to the CSO. And now that combatting Covid-19 has become everyone's priority, the crucial importance of the sector has been thrown into even further relief.

So it is particularly important that the pharmaceutical sector's best performers are celebrated once again at the Pharma Industry Awards, 2020. This is the 7th year that the Awards will be taking place though, it almost goes without saying, this year's event will look and feel very different to years gone by.

This year's event will take place as a live digital broadcast on Thursday, December 3rd, at 3:30pm, and the Awards will be hosted by renowned financial journalist and broadcaster Richard Curran, host of RTE Radio 1's The Business.

More than 45 companies have been shortlisted in the 24 categories this year. And, as usual, the companies shortlisted cover everything from researchers and market strategists to process and formulation engineers.

This is the fourth year that Kuehne + Nagel will be returning as Supply Chain Solutions Partner, which is particularly pleasing for Adam O’Sullivan, director of Pharma & Life Sciences there. “We are proud and delighted to be continuing our long-term involvement with the Pharma Industry Awards as Supply Chain Solutions Partner. This will be the fourth year of our involvement and we have seen the event go from strength to strength in that time.

“In this current environment, it is important for us to show our support to all of the essential work being carried out by the industry. The Awards has been one of the highlights on the Pharma industry calendar for the past seven years, and it is an important platform for us to be present in front of all our key clients.

“As a global supply chain solutions organisation we understand the importance of teamwork, collaboration, innovation, and solidarity when it comes to tackling big challenges and delivering for our clients.

“With the pharma industry fully behind the development of a vaccine in the fight against Covid-19, the recognition and acknowledgement that the Awards provides is very significant, and we are delighted to be associated alongside that.

“We are looking forward to and are excited about the digital ceremony and catching up with everyone face-to-face when we get through the pandemic.”

Kuehne + Nagel have a long and illustrious history here in Ireland, and can count 23 of the top 25 pharmaceutical companies in the country as their clients. Only a few weeks ago, in October, they signed a multi-year contract with West Pharmaceuticals to build a 100,000 sq. ft. temperature-controlled warehouse to handle all their contract logistics and road transport.

This will be the 10th location Kuehne + Nagel have invested in here in Ireland, dedicated to the pharmaceutical and medtech industries. And it is extremely important for the future success of our economy that companies like them continue to provide us with that sort of support and investment.

This year’s event is also being supported by BioPharmaChem Ireland, who are one of this year’s patrons. Matt Moran, a director at BioPharmaChem Ireland, said; “It has been a challenging time for the pharma industry, as with many others across the country. As judging co-ordinator and patron to the event we can see that the response to the Awards during this period has been commendable, and the standard of the finalists is very strong, as ever. Here at BioPharmaChem Ireland, it is clear to see the innovation and dedication being applied by all across the pharma sector.

“A key reason for the sector staying strong is the partnerships between R&D, contract services, suppliers and the manufacturing sites across the country. The Awards showcases the support and commitment of organisations to the success of pharmaceutical operations in Ireland. We are looking forward to being involved in the digital event on December 3rd.
