The Pharma Industry Awards 2019 were held on October 24th at Citywest Hotel, Dublin. The pharmaceutical sector made up almost 40 per cent of Ireland’s total annual Net Selling Value (NSV) in 2018, and was worth a massive €47.8 billion to the Irish economy, according to the
.
So the annual Pharma Industry Awards, now in its sixth year, was the perfect opportunity for some of the most senior figures in the industry to gather for an evening spent celebrating an industry enjoying conspicuous health. Unsurprisingly then, there were some 600 people in attendance from more than 70 different companies.
Two of the evening’s most coveted awards went to AbbVie in Ireland, which picked up the awards for Pharma Industry Company of the Year, and Pharma Company of the Year - Large. “I’m delighted that AbbVie has been recognised for its significant contribution to the sector in Ireland. The awards are a testament to the hard work and exceptional talent at our sites in Cork, Dublin and Sligo and their efforts to help sustain an innovative, world-class biopharmaceutical business.” said Robert Love, director of Communications, AbbVie in Ireland.
APC were also one of the night’s winners, collecting the award for Innovation of the Year. "Winning the award for Innovation is a fantastic recognition of our team and a testament to their excellence, enthusiasm and hard work. Being part of this awards ceremony, surrounded by the best and brightest in our sector, imparts even more value to this award and makes it all the sweeter." said Mark Barrett, CEO and co-founder.
While Eli Lilly Kinsale came away with the Award for Pharma Project of the Year – Large, and the Health & Safety Award. “We’re absolutely delighted to have won two awards at this year’s Pharma Industry Awards. It’s brilliant for the team to get this sort of recognition, especially when it comes from recognised experts in the biopharma industry and academia.” said Todd Winge, vice president and general manager, Lilly Kinsale.
Once again, Kuehne + Nagel were the Awards key supply chain solutions partner. “This is Kuehne + Nagel’s third year as headline sponsor, and it gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate the success of the Irish pharma industry that’s truly respected locally and on a global scale. Getting everybody in the same room to network, and to thank people for their business, is a fantastic opportunity”. said Adam O’Sullivan, director of Pharmaceutical & Healthcare, Kuehne + Nagel.
While this year’s Platinum sponsor was Perigord Life Science Solutions. “We’re proud to have been the Platinum Sponsor for these prestigious awards. As a global leader in the provision of packaging artwork and labelling solutions to the life science industry, we understand and recognise all the hard work and effort the teams put into their projects. We congratulate all the nominees for their exceptional contribution to the Irish pharma industry and wish them every success in 2020.” said Alan Leamy, CEO, Perigord Life Science Solutions.
As ever, the judging panel had their work cut out singling out the individual winners. “It’s very gratifying to see the remarkably high standard on display in all of the nominees shortlisted for these awards. And picking the individual winners in each of the categories was a real challenge.” said Matt Moran, director, BioPharmaChem, Ireland, this year’s Judging Co-ordinator.
