Back to basics!
Balance and variety are key to a healthy diet. And in recent years the range of foods available to us has steadily increased. As a result, however, a new phenomenon has emerged: choice stress! Could going back to basics be part of the solution?
Variety & versatility
Milk has long been a staple in the Irish diet, and with good reason. Milk is naturally delicious and an important source of many essential nutrients, such as calcium, protein, iodine, vitamin B2 and vitamin B12. Milk and milk products are extremely versatile too. They can be easily incorporated into a balanced diet and enjoyed as part of a healthy lifestyle. For example, milk is perfect as a refreshing, stand-alone drink. Enjoy it in smoothies, pour it over breakfast cereals or use it in a wide range of cooked and baked dishes.
Get creative!
Did you know that heat has little impact on the calcium content of food? This means that cooked meals containing milk retain the goodness of calcium. Why not get creative and visit www.milkaforceofnature.ie for tasty, milk-based recipes?
Get the power of milk on your side
The Department of Health's Food Pyramid recommends three servings from the 'milk, yogurt and cheese' food group each day. Between the ages of nine and 18, five servings daily are recommended. Examples of one serving include: 200ml of milk, 125ml of yogurt or 25g of hard cheese.
