Gerard Killoran is passionate about dairy farming. He and his wife Marie have two children, Aaron (10) and Elaine (14). Gerard’s parents Eugene and Josephine are also still interested in the farm.
“It’s nice to add to the farm and have something that’s viable and sustainable to hand over in the future, says Gerard. The kids are also more likely to be interested when things are done well.”
Gerard says that a quality product is expected in the shops so farmers have to produce quality.
“It’s nice and rewarding to do things right. It’s easier to work in a clean environment. It’s more financially rewarding for a better product. All in all it’s about good habits, not rocket science,” says Gerard.
This is a farm with potential for expansion. It is registered with the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme and has consistently produced milk of very high quality. Those standards are achieved by attention to detail, good routines and best practices.
