PATIENTS’ FORUM

The Patients’ Forum is an advocacy group that works to place patients at the centre of the healthcare system. By providing online and direct training for patients on their conditions, in accordance with the expert patients’ curriculum of the UK’s National Health Service, the Patients’ Forum addresses a vast spectrum of clinical issues. As well as helping patients to make more educated decisions about their health, research has shown that increased knowledge and independence is critical in reversing the negative emotional and physical effects of long-term illnesses. The group also works to place patients in governing and advisory committees that steer the healthcare system. In Spain, the Patients’ Forum now works with almost 700,000 members, and they are now looking to expand the model in Ireland.
