Peace First exists to create the next generation of peacemakers and provides a way for children to learn and live compassionately and empathically from an early age. Integral to the programme is the view that children are natural problem solvers and creative thinkers, with research showing the most effective way to curb violence lies in investment in the social-emotional development of young people. With an estimated 200,000 Irish children at risk of bullying, Peace First offers a method for children to create peace- making strategies and resolve conflicts in ways relevant to their daily lives, with 92 per cent of teachers at Peace First schools reporting positive social gains in children. It aims to launch the Peace First Prize in Ireland, recognising young people who help transform communities into more peaceful and just places.
