Founded by Carlo Petrini and represented in Ireland by Darina Allen, the Slow Food movement reconnects consumers to the source and quality of their food, as well as to its wider implications in the global food chain.
Slow Food aims to create balance in the supply chain by helping small producers access bigger markets and build sustainable businesses, while allowing consumers to eat food that is healthier for both themselves and the environment. Through a series of events and education initiatives, Slow Food builds profile for producers and informs consumers of alternatives to processed and unseasonal foods. There are currently over 100,000 Slow Food members in 150 countries around the world, including 300 in Ireland spread across 14 local chapters.
