TRANSITION NETWORK

Transition Network was founded on the basis that the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change are related, and must be addressed together. After developing the world’s first Energy Descent Action Plan, a blueprint for how Kinsale could function without cheap oil, founder Rob Hopkins set out to support other towns in creating similar initiatives. The movement has spread worldwide and contains over 900 initiatives, with projects focused on different aspects of sustainability, including food, transport, household energy, recycling and stimulating local economies. There are currently nine official initiatives active in Ireland and two in Northern Ireland, with a team in place to connect these groups and support new ones.
