Transitions Ireland is an adapted version of Encore Careers, an American organisation helping the growing population aged between retirement and old age to use their skills and experience to benefit their communities. Encore works on the principle that “third agers” wish to continue serving in their local areas and can play a significant role in bridging labour gaps in education, health care and the green economy. Drawing from the Encore model, Transitions Ireland will provide programmes to assist communities in launching the infrastructure and institutions to successfully engage the third age population. Formed in partnership with the Ageing Well Network, Retirement Planning Council and DCU, this will encompass third-level education, community work and career progression, with a particular focus on entrepreneurship. Transitions Ireland is fundraising and preparing to launch this year.
