WHOLESALE withdrawals were the order of the day at Tralee yesterday with no less than 19 non-runners due primarily to the very fast ground. For Paul Carberry, however, the afternoon proved one to remember when he recorded a near 141 to 1 treble.

The highlight of the Meath man's three-timer came in the Kirbys Steakhouse Handicap Chase when he was seen at his brilliant best when conjuring up a winning effort on Merry People on what looked an impossible task with a circuit to race.

Pushed along with Carberry working overtime the nine-year-old kept on responding to his persistent urgings and after a superb leap at the final fence, landed full of running to head Inniscein close home to win by a neck.

Earlier, Carberry initiated the treble in the Fenit Mares Maiden Hurdle when he made all on the Ger Hourigan-trained Sarah Supreme to justify favouritism with consummate ease.

The afternoon was successfully completed when Carberry produced Legitman with a perfectly timed run to head Robsera over the last before staying on to score by a length.
