GREYHOUND RACING: A €14 million, state-of-the- art greyhound stadium for Limerick was announced at a news conference by Pascal Taggart, chairman of Bord na gCon, yesterday evening. The track is to be located on the Ennis Road, about three miles from the city centre.

"All other major centres have since been refurbished and Limerick is not before its time," said Eamonn Cronin, chairman of the Limerick and Clare Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association.

Three years ago, then CEO Michael Field announced a new track to be located at the former Greenpark Racecourse. However, nothing came of it.

The board has yet to announce plans for their present home at the Markets Field, which first opened for greyhound racing in 1932.
