Lawn Bowls international Blair Somers talks about the 13th hole at Druids Glen
"A visually stunning hole that really captures your attention when you stand on the tee-box. Accuracy in the tee-shot is central to how a golfer fares at the hole. The further left you go the longer the carry over the lake that protects the front of the green for your second shot.
"If you drive the ball too straight then you will run out of fairway and end up ploughing into the bank that guards the left-hand side of the fairway. Ideally you would look to cut the ball around the corner but going too far right runs the risk of ending up in the stream that borders the right of the fairway.
"The temptation after a less than perfect tee-shot is to aim right and hope that you hit the slope to the right of the green. As a bale out, it still requires great accuracy and no little good fortune. It's a great test for golfers of all standards."
Blair Somers is a Lawn Bowls international and this week represents Ireland at the Home internationals in Worthing, one of only two players from the South - Graham Darcy is the other - on the 20-man team. He is a former member of Delgany who plays off a nine handicap.
