CHEPSTOW/Report: Trainer Richard Mitchell and his jockey daughter Sophie ended a long losing run when Shannon Light won the the Severn Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow yesterday.

Mitchell snr had not saddled a winner for almost a year while his daughter had gone 86 rides without success until Shannon Light galloped to their rescue with a length and three-quarters verdict over Helixir Du Theil.

Trainer Mitchell said: "We've had a lousy season as the horses were just not right early on and we had one or two such as Farmer Jack taken away because owners won't accept when horses are wrong they cannot run." His daughter commented: "That is a relief and I was hoping no one would ask but it's been a while and 86 rides since my last winner."
