Galway golfers emulated their footballers when they won their third JB Carr Trophy for senior players when they beat Rosslare 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 in an exciting final at Woodenbridge. The JB Carr Trophy is now in existence for six years and Galway have a tremendous record in the event, having won in 1997, 1999 and 2001 and were beaten finalists in 1998.

Former interprovincial, Barton Shield and Irish Junior Cup winners Tom O'Connor and Seβn Hosty played on this year's winning team and are still playing off handicaps of four and five respectively. Star of many a Galway victory on the GAA field, Bosco McDermott, was adding to a long list of achievements at All-Ireland level as was Denis MacSweeney, Denis Byrne and Tom Ford - all members of the 1998 winning side.

In the semi-finals, Galway beat Charleville from Cork while Rosslare saw off the challenge of Rossmore. Catering for the over 60s players, the JB Carr Trophy has gone from strength to strength with 170 clubs taking part this year. Charleville beat the Ulster champions Rossmore in the play-off for third place.
