Paddy Cole - Musician
Earliest golfing memory?
Capitol Showband guys playing in Cork's Little Island. I didn't play at the time.
First golfing victory?
A society outing at Slieve Russell in Cavan, one of my favourite courses.
First time to break 90?
Some days I still wouldn't break it.
Last bit of golf equipment?
A new TaylorMade driver two years ago. It works for me sometimes.
Last time you took a cart and why?
I like to walk, but last time was in Doonbeg, to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Last time you uttered an obscenity on course and why?
The last time I played in my home course, Castle, Rathfarnham. Mostly over putts.
Which of the majors would you like to attend?
US Open, but hoping the guy that shouts "In the hole!" is not there.
Ideal fourball?
My two sons, Pearse and Pat, and their uncle John Hehir, at John's Club, Dromoland.
One last round on earth?
Without doubt, Lahinch.
Ralph Lauren or Lyle & Scott?
I know them all. They're members in Carton House.
Is the Titleist ProV1 worth the extra expense?
Our pro at Castle, David Kinsella, says they are, but then again, he sells them.
Best golf club food?
The food at the Castle.
140 yards from green. Flat and calm. What's in your hand?
A seven-iron in summer - maybe a six-iron in winter.
Favourite club in a crisis?
Probably an eight-iron. I can pitch and run it as well.
Parkland or links?
I like them both. Links in winter, parkland in summer.
Must-see golfing holiday destination?
Sun City, South Africa, but if your ball is in water, you leave it there, to the crocodiles.
Hidden gem?
Spanish Point, County Clare.
One Mulligan in life?
We were offered a coast-to-coast tour of the US with Capitol Showband in the 1960s. We turned it down, and the band that did it instead got their own coast-to-coast TV series. I'd like to have a Mulligan on that one.
