Earliest golfing memory?

The Jeyes International at Royal Dublin - my father was assistant marshal. I was about 12 or 13 and I didn't play golf then. I didn't start playing golf until I was 28.

First victory?

I don't recall exactly, but it was probably with the Press Radio and TV golf society.

First time to break 90?

It was at Royal Dublin in about 1982 and it was an incredible feeling - it was like having a level par round.

Last bit of equipment you bought?

A 60-degree Titleist Vokey lobwedge

Last time you took a cart and why?

I like to carry my bag, so I've only used golf carts when they were compulsory.

Last time you muttered an obscenity on the course and why?

Always under my breath and probably in every round of golf because of lack of concentration on whatever I'm supposed to be doing.

Which of the majors would you like to attend and why?

I've been to the Masters, so I suppose I really would like to go to the British Open, but BBC coverage is so good I'd be afraid I'd miss something.

Ideal fourball. Who and where?

Me, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Seve in Royal Dublin (2007 model). I'd just stand back and watch and listen.

One last round on earth, where would it be?

Old course Vilamoura, Portugal, perfect blend of old and new.

Dress sense: Davis Love or Ian Poulter?

Davis Love, but XL.

Is a Titleist Pro V1 worth the extra expense?

Since the demise of the balata golf ball, most definitely.

Best golf club food - where?

Hard to beat Laytown & Bettystown, but also the more formal dining at Druids Glen.

140 yards out from the green. Flat calm. What's in your hands?

Eight-iron if the pin is on front of green - if pin is at the back, a seven-iron.

Favourite club in times of trouble?

Eight-iron

Parkland or links?

Links all year - parkland for that seven or eight months.

Must see golfing holiday destination?

Fancourt, South Africa - stunning beauty and a great test on all the courses.

Hidden gem?

Arklow - so compact and so difficult.

One Mulligan in life?

I had to say no to a game with Jack Nicklaus because of work - would Mr Nicklaus please ask again . . . soon!
