Abbey CBS, Tipperary 3-11Castlecomer CS 1-13Three goals in eight minutes in the second quarter were the key to a thrilling win for Abbey CBS Tipperary over Castlecomer CS in the All Ireland Colleges Senior B Hurling final at Thurles.
Abbey were 0-6 to 0-3 ahead in the 19th minute when Charles Walsh set up David Morrissey for their first goal. Two minutes later a James Maguire shot from 30 yards, which appeared to be going wide, curled into the corner of the net for a lucky goal.
In the 27th minute Abbey struck again. Danny Hennessey and Bernard O'Callaghan combined to create the chance for Conor O'Brien, who made no mistake.
At halftime Abbey led 3-9 to 0-5 and looked uncatchable but Castlecomer resumed in spirited fashion. They shot seven points without reply in 10 minutes to narrow the gap to six points.
